Deadline: 2018/05/14 - Janet Phleger Foundation

The Janet Phleger Foundation was established to provide assistance to graduating high school seniors, who are residents of Lucas County, that have a parent and/or legal guardian that has been affected with cancer, as a caner survivor, those who may have succumbed to cancer, or those who are currently fighting.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Candidates must have a parent that was diagnosed with cancer
  • Candidate (or parent/legal guardian) must currently live or work in Toledo or surrounding suburbs
  • Candidates must be a graduating senior
  • Candidates must plan to attend an Ohio College or Trade School
  • Candidates must show financial need
  • Essay, extracurricular list, two letters of recommendation needed, copy of FAFSA Student Air Report

Toledo Community Foundation manages over 190 scholarship funds. The opportunities presented on our website represent only the scholarships for which Toledo Community Foundation is the contact for making application. Please check with the senior guidance counselor or college counselor at your school for all scholarship opportunities available to students at your school.

The Foundation moved to an online application process in 2014. Applications must be made online with few exceptions (BCSN Student of the Month being one exception and that application can be downloaded from our website or obtain a copy from your Guidance Counselor). We have made the application process simple, and requests for transcripts and letters of reference require only a contact name and email address. The system sends out the requests for you!

Deadline: TBD - Owens Board of Trustee Scholarship


Board of Trustees Scholarship
The Board of Trustees Scholarship is $1,000 per semester for up to four consecutive semesters. The scholarship begins in fall semester; summer enrollment is optional. All awards are based upon available funding.

Students who will be enrolling at Owens in the fall semester immediately after graduating from a high school in the Owens legal district, and who have a high school GPA of 3.7 or above, must submit official high school transcripts on or after January 1 of their senior year to be considered.

In addition, students who meet one of the following qualifications may apply for the scholarship by submitting the Board of Trustees Scholarship -- Nomination Form.

A high school senior attending a high school located in the Owens legal district, who has a high school GPA of 3.0 - 3.69, demonstrates student motivation, and enrolls in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.

A high school graduate, who has not been in high school for at least one year, or a GED recipient (applicants may not have attended Owens for at least one year); resides in the Owens legal district; demonstrates motivation through exceptional work or public/community service (including military service), academic performance, other demonstrated leadership, or other experience as related to a career path; and enrolls for the fall semester immediately following the award of the scholarship.

All recipients must meet the following criteria:

Apply for admission to Owens as a regular student

Pursue a degree or certificate with the intent to complete at Owens Community College

Maintain full-time enrollment at a minimum of twelve credit hours each semester

Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to continue eligibility for each semester at Owens, for a maximum of four total consecutive semesters (summer optional)

Note: This program replaces the Academic Excellence Scholarship and Academic Achievement Scholarship Programs. Students who were previously awarded the Academic Excellence Scholarship or Academic Achievement Scholarship Program should refer to their scholarship award notification for information on how to continue eligibility for the 2017-2018 academic year.
