Volunteer Opportunities

Parent and community volunteers provide valuable assistance with school activities. Throughout the year, there are many opportunities for volunteers to support service projects, school events, fundraisers and special programs. Volunteers may also serve in specific areas of school life as classroom chaperones, teacher helpers and tutors.  Please contact individual teachers, librarians or the principals if you can assist in some way. Thank you for your gift of time and talent!

Current Opportunities

Opportunity to Serve: Surrogate Parents Needed
Anthony Wayne Local Schools is looking for volunteers interested in supporting students with disabilities by serving as a Surrogate Parent. A Surrogate Parent is a volunteer who is trained and certified through the state to advocate for students with disabilities in the absence of a parent or guardian.

If you are interested in serving in this capacity, you must complete the Ohio Department of Education-approved online or face-to-face training with a State Support Team. This training is free. More information about the training is available by clicking here.

Once you have received certification, please notify the AWLS Student Services office at 419-877-5377 to get started

Opportunity to Give: Neighborhood Bridges
Anthony Wayne Local Schools has partnered with neighborhood bridges to connect students and families in need with generous donors in our community in order to ensure they arrive at school ready to learn.

Here's how it works:
  1. School representatives work with students and their families to identify barriers to securing basic needs.
  2. The school shares the need with neighborhood bridges.
  3. neighborhood bridges reaches out to its network of donors to ask for help on behalf of the student.
  4. Donors register to receive notifications and select the ways they can help.
  5. neighborhood bridges delivers the donation to the school.
  6. School representatives ensure families receive the needed item.
The process is easy and anonymous. You can help by submitting your email online at www.neighborhoodbridges.org/community/anthony-wayne

For assistance in requesting a need for your student or family, please contact your school counselor, principal or the District school social worker, Rebekah Hrcka.
