The Anthony Wayne Local Schools Treasurer's Department was recognized at the regular June meeting of the AWLS Board of Education for receiving the prestigious Auditor of State Award, a testament to their exceptional financial practices and accountability. The award was presented by Lori Brodie who represented Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber.
This accolade is given to taxpayer-funded entities that exemplify a clean audit report, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and integrity in managing public funds. The award reflects the department's meticulous attention to detail, adherence to state standards and dedication to maintaining the highest levels of fiscal responsibility.
In order to qualify for the Auditor of State Award entities must earn a clean audit report by meeting the following criteria:
- The entity must file financial reports with the Auditor of State’s Office by the statutory due date, without extension, via the Hinkle System on the GAAP accounting basis.
- The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) findings, or questioned costs.
- The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to:
- Ethics referrals
- Questioned costs less than the threshold per Uniform Guidance
- Lack of timely report submission
- Bank reconciliation issues
- Failure to obtain a timely Single Audit in accordance with Uniform Guidance
- Findings for recovery less than $500
- Public meetings or public records issues
- The entity has no other financial or other concerns.
Fewer than eight percent of eligible organizations receive an Auditor of State Award. This achievement not only highlights the department's professionalism and diligence but also reinforces the community's trust in the District's financial stewardship.
