Freshmen and sophomores in the Animals, Foods, and Natural Resources class, led by AWHS-Penta Career Center teacher Courtney Bockbrader collected data to support the Toledo Lucas County Metropolitan Council of Governments (TMACOG) Student Watershed Watch. The project has engaged hundreds of students across northwest Ohio in water testing and research for over 35 years.
Each fall, students conduct hands-on fieldwork, collecting water samples from local waterways and analyzing key factors such as dissolved oxygen, pH levels and turbidity. They also collect and study macroinvertebrates to assess habitat health. This immersive experience offers students valuable scientific insights while highlighting the importance of protecting natural resources and local ecosystems.
