The Anthony Wayne High School Yearbook staff were recently granted a visit from one of Anthony Wayne’s greatest sports photography assets: Kevin Finnigan. Kevin spends countless hours on the sidelines of nearly every single varsity sport the school has to offer, taking hundreds of professional quality images for the community to enjoy.

When he explained why he does sports photography, he stated, “I’m never more at home than when I’m in a stadium or auditorium, and I have a camera in my hand.”

While other professional photographers such as himself would charge upwards of $200 for this level of commitment, Kevin posts all of his work to Facebook, and only asks for his name in the bylines if they are used.

When asked about why he posts his photos for free for anyone to download, he responded, “There’s a time in your life when you just need to give back. And that’s what I’m doing, giving back.”

The Yearbook staff is especially grateful for his work, since many of his pictures are used in the sport pages of the yearbook handed out to students every summer. Last year, AWHS Yearbook Advisor Katie Pollock had the idea of dedicating a page solely to Kevin so that more people understand his dedication to his craft.

Two current seniors, Emma Abraham and Ashlyn Shafer, put together this spread, and on Thursday, Sept. 5 they presented it to Kevin, but not without a surprise! They invited him in to speak about his career experiences and share tips for sports photography with the yearbook staff, and caught him off guard during the question and answer period by presenting him with his own signed copy of the 2023-2024 yearbook.

We can’t thank Kevin Finnigan enough for all that he brings to the District, and thank him for his dedication to Anthony Wayne Local Schools.
