Dear Anthony Wayne Local Schools Families,
We are writing to make you aware that this morning we were contacted by local law enforcement regarding a situation involving an AWHS student. It is important to note that while this situation does involve one of our students, there was and is not an immediate danger to our schools or school community.
Here is what we know: An online conversation that was flagged as potentially threatening by a social media platform was reported to the FBI. This alert resulted in the IP address being tracked to an AWHS student and the Whitehouse Police Department was contacted overnight.
The student is in custody while an investigation takes place. The District is working in cooperation with law enforcement in this investigation, but it is important to note that there was not a threat to any Anthony Wayne building or individual, and at no time were any students or staff in danger.
We are sharing this information with you to be proactive and transparent about a safety concern in our community and as a reminder to report any activity that could be suspicious to law enforcement. The District works closely with our area police departments and is grateful for their diligence in keeping our schools and our community safe.
As always, we remind you to report potentially threatening situations to local law enforcement or the Safer Ohio School Tip Line by calling or texting 844-SAFER-OH (844-723-3764).
Again, there was not a threat made against any AWLS student, staff member or building. Law enforcement officials also believe that no one in the AW Community was in danger. You may call your school office if you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Kevin Herman, Superintendent
Anthony Wayne Local Schools
