Anthony Wayne Families:
Due to the recent incident outside of the Whitmer stadium during a football game, staying safe at athletic events is on the minds of many in our area. Due to this, we want to share our safety procedures for public events as we prepare and look forward to the final varsity football game of the season on Friday night.
Safety is one of our top priorities, and District staff continue to collaborate with local law enforcement and first responders to help ensure student participants and spectators have a safe and enjoyable experience. Please see below actions that you can do to help the District provide a safe environment during an outdoor event.
Keep an eye on the forecast and weather conditions. Lightning or other severe weather conditions may delay or cancel an event.
Make a plan. We encourage families to enjoy athletic contests and other activities together, but make sure your child and other loved ones know how to reach you if you are not seated together.
Be attentive. Event delay or cancellation information and evacuation instructions will be communicated if situations arise. Listen for announcements and follow the directions of school administrators, game officials and law enforcement.
Be patient and cooperative. Changes of plans are frustrating and emergencies can be scary. Please work with school administrators and law enforcement to help ensure the safety of the student participants and all spectators in attendance. Information and further instructions will be communicated as soon as they are available.
If you see something, say something. Report any suspicious activity or items to event workers, school personnel or law enforcement. In the event of immediate danger, call 9-1-1.
Prior to each game we share safety information through the pressbox announcements. Please see the below summary of this information.
Schaller Stadium Emergency/Weather Evacuation Plan
In the case of inclement weather or any other emergency requiring evacuation of the stadium the following areas of safety have been identified:
Players, Coaches and Team Personnel: Return to locker room
Home/Visiting Marching Band and Cheerleaders: Report to the AWHS auditorium
Home/Visiting Spectators: Return to vehicles or report to the AWHS main gymnasium/commons area located behind the home plate area of the baseball field.
Announcements will be made from the press box regarding any delay, cancellation and/or other safety updates. In the event of emergency, additional information will be shared by area first responders and AWLS administrators in each designated location.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our public events remain a safe and enjoyable experience for all. If you have questions please feel free to contact the high school administration or athletic department.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Fritz
