AWJH Weekly News: Week 31
April 11, 2025

Greetings Anthony Wayne Junior High Families,

Thank you for a great week! Our third quarter grades are finalized. As a reminder, 3rd quarter grades determine 4th quarter athletic eligibility for Track & Field. As a reminder, there is no school for students on Friday (4/18). On Monday (4/21), we will be on a two-hour delay schedule for staff professional development.

Ohio State Tests
It’s hard to believe, but state testing begins next week! We will hold our school-wide testing times during the first part of the school day (typically 8 - 10 a.m.) on the following dates:
  • April 15 & 17: ELA Ohio State Test
  • April 22 & 24: Math Ohio State Test
  • April 29 & May 1: Science Ohio State Test (8th Grade & Biology only)
We would appreciate your support in making sure your student is in attendance on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling appointments on these days. Please check in with your student to make sure their Chromebook is charged and ready to go for testing.

Military Family Spirit Week
Anthony Wayne Junior High and the Purple Star Generals are looking forward to celebrating our Military Families with a Spirit Week (4/14-4/18)! We hope you join us for this spirit week!
  • Monday, April 14: Red, White, and Blue Day
  • Tuesday, April 15: State-wide Purple Up! Day 2025
  • Wednesday, April 16: Support Your Favorite Military Branch Day
  • Thursday, April 17: Camouflage a.k.a. “Digi” (Digital) Day
  • Friday, April 18: R.E.D. (Remember Everyone Deployed) Friday-wear Red!
Day of Awesomeness
On Tuesday, May 13th, we will host our Day of Awesomeness. This day is supported by the fundraiser we participated in earlier this spring. All students will have the opportunity to participate in the Day of Awesomeness events. We will need volunteers to help support this event.

Incentive Day
Incentive Day is coming! Each year at the end of the school year, the Junior High holds an Incentive Day. All students participate in the incentive day. Students have the opportunity to earn additional incentives during that day if they:
  • Reach their individualized projection score on the ELA Ohio State Test (OST)
  • Reach their individualized projection score on the Math Ohio State Test (OST)
  • Reach their individualized projection score on the Science Ohio State Test (OST)
  • Have zero missing assignments for the 4th quarter
  • Have zero unexcused absences for the 4th quarter

For each item they meet, students receive an additional incentive that day. Even if your student does not meet any of these thresholds, there will be still activities they can participate in that day. Students may be disqualified from incentive
day if they receive an In-School Assignment or Out-of-School Suspension during the fourth quarter.

Teacher Appreciation Week
Our AWPTA is planning a week of celebration for our staff and faculty the first week of May and is in need of family participation to make this week a success.  Please see the attached flyer for all details and contact information!

Chromebook Care Reminders
The Technology Department is seeing an increase in help tickets submitted for Chromebook repairs. Please help to keep your child's school-issued device safe and secure. Please refer to the tip sheet included with this email for easy ways to ensure their Chromebook stays in good working order.
