Board Meeting Follow Up and Superintendent Update
June 6, 2024

Dear Anthony Wayne Community,

We hope this letter finds you well. The AWLS Board of Education held our annual June special meeting yesterday and we want to share some important updates with you.

Most notably, we voted to officially accept the resignation of Dr. Jim Fritz as superintendent of the District. We appreciate his leadership over the last 14 years and thank him for his commitment to the students, staff, families and community of Anthony Wayne Local Schools. We wish him only the best in his future endeavors.

We intend to appoint the current Assistant Superintendent Mr. Kevin Herman to serve as Interim Superintendent. A vote to approve this appointment will take place at the Thursday, June 27 board meeting. Also at this meeting, information about the superintendent search process will be presented. Updates will be shared with you as they become available.

Other business conducted at yesterday’s meeting included approval of:
  • the District’s new athletics pay-to-participate program.
  • a job description for a new teacher of the visually impaired position
  • overnight trips requested by student organizations and teams.
  • other personnel resignations, retirements, hires and volunteers

Details about the pay-to-participate program will be shared as soon as possible.
