Dear Anthony Wayne Local Schools Stakeholders:
There were some significant decisions made at this morning’s meeting of the Anthony Wayne Local Schools Board of Education that will be summarized for you in this message.
Thank you,
Kevin Herman, Assistant Superintendent
Anthony Wayne Local Schools
Interim Superintendent Appointed
Current Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Kevin Herman has been appointed to serve as the District’s Interim Superintendent for one year, effective August 1, 2024. The Board intends to conduct a search for superintendent candidates during the 2024-25 school year.
Director of Technology Position Reinstated
The District will not fill the open assistant superintendent position during the 2024-25 school year. The Board has decided to instead reinstate the Director of Technology position that was eliminated as a part of the Financial Recovery Plan. Dr. Chris Hamady will continue to serve in this capacity under a 1-year contract, effective July 1, 2024.
Resolution to Proceed for Operational Levy Approved
The Board unanimously approved the next step to placing a 5-year, 2.42-mill operational levy on the Tuesday, Nov. 5 ballot. This will be the third attempt by the District to secure additional revenue to fund the day-to-day operations of the District. If passed, the levy will generate $3.3M.
Donation Accepted from Athletic Boosters
The Anthony Wayne Athletic Boosters donated $54,134 to reinstate the supplemental athletic coaching positions that were to be left unfilled for the 2024-25 school year due to budget constraints. The Board accepted the donation for this purpose, along with $375 in other donations to the District from other individuals.
Treasurer’s Office Received Auditor of State Award
District Treasurer, Kerri Johnson and her staff received the Auditor of State Award for excellence in fiscal management and reporting. Fewer than 8% of eligible organizations across the state receive this achievement.
