Seventh grade students had the opportunity to envision what their futures could be like at a Career Expo and Panel Discussion. They have been learning about the Six Career Houses - different fields of work and the types of jobs within those fields.
Career Houses are a simple way to start to introduce students to the idea that the world of work can be aligned to their personal aptitudes, interests and passions. The concept is just one part of the Career Exploration activities that take place in grades 5-8. They learn that many jobs are related and generally fall into one of the following categories:
- The Helping & Teaching People House
- The Rules & Enforcement House
- The Communication & Travel House
- The Leadership & Business House
- The STEM House
- The Making & Shipping House
During the Career Expo, students participated in hands-on activities and networked with local professionals representing each of the career houses. The activities allowed students to ask questions about various careers and "try out" certain aspects of that career. They also heard from other local professionals who described the education, experience and other skills needed to work in their fields.
