AWJH 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher, Mrs. Christine Young was named the BCSN/BCAN Classroom Hero for the Month of May. She was surprised with a certificate and cash prize on April 24, 2024.
Christine was nominated by Jason Graven, local veteran and founder of Task Force 20. He acknowledged her support of our military-connected students and her leadership in creating opportunities to show appreciation to the active and veteran service members of our community:
"For the past several years, Christine has overseen the Anthony Wayne Purple Star Generals group which is the child dependents of veterans and service members. Christine has worked with surrounding organizations such as The American Legion to provide volunteer opportunities for these students to place American Flags at gravesites at Veterans Day, works with veterans organization Task Force 20 on different fundraising events for the students, and has led the AW Junior High Veterans Day program bringing guest speakers with military backgrounds to talk to all students on military service. Christine's diligence is creating a strong camaraderie between the dependents and makes sure that all students understand the sacrifices veterans and service members make to protect our way of life while also encouraging students to consider the benefits of service." - Mr. Jason Graven, Founder, Task Force 20
Christine received $300 for use in her classroom and will be featured in an interview on BCSN/BCAN.
