In their second visit to the DECA International Career Development Conference, AWHS seniors Sammy Rodriguez and Evan Stigall broke into the Top 10. Competing in the Business Law and Ethics Team category, they were challenged to think under pressure - developing a strategy and presentation in response to a case study related to product liability, employment and types of business ownership and evaluating competing social values that may reasonably be argued from either side. They were also scored on their performance on an exam testing their overall business management knowledge.

Anthony Wayne-Penta Chapter Advisor, Mrs. Becky Stutz said that the duo competed against more than 150 other teams. She said that DECA is a highly competitive organization and it was quite an accomplishment for Sammy and Evan to not only earn first place at the state level two years in a row, but to also place in the top 10 at ICDC.

Also traveling to Anaheim, California to represent the chapter were:

  • Grant Przybylski, Automotive Services Marketing Series

  • Catessa Hires, Quick Service Restaurant Management Series

  • Ian Pulhuj, Personal Finance Literacy Event

  • Grace Baumgartner and Lauren Huffman, Entrepreneurship Team

  • Will Luther, Accounting Series

  • Cooper Borowski and Landon Gates, Marketing Management Team

In addition to the competitive events and conference sessions, students visited theme parks and toured Hollywood, Beverly Hills and other California landmarks.
