On February 22, 2024, nineteen Anthony Wayne-Penta FFA members made their way to the local assisted living center, Sunshine Communities, which is known as a non-profit organization located in Northwest Ohio, supporting people of all ages with developmental disabilities.
Students got the opportunity to work alongside some Sunshines Communities members and help do several chores, tasks, and animal handling that the residents are responsible for. Students working in the greenhouse helped install new wheelchair-accessible raised beds for the residents. While students in the barn helped clean stalls, replenish water, and groom the animals.
Kennedie Hill said she enjoyed working alongside the residents, “Especially Colin, it was a great way to connect with the community of people with disabilities while also relating it to Agriculture." Students were able to connect with other members of our community as well as expand their abilities and knowledge in agriculture.
