AWHS Students Celebrate 419 Day with Field Trip

by Eva Schadewald, Anthony Wayne-Penta FFA member

On April 18, 2023, 32 Anthony Wayne-Penta FFA members went on a field trip to five agriculture locations in Lucas County to celebrate 419 day. They went to Lonnie Perry Farms, Se la vie Stables, Wheeler Farms, Balance Pan Asian (for tour and lunch), and Maumee Bay State Park.

They learned about grain production and how they manage their fields at Lonnie Perry Farms. At the stables, the group learned about horse boarding and how to take care of a horse. They went to the Whitehouse Christmas tree farm, corn maze, butterfly house, and The Stables which are all owned by Wheeler Farms.

They also learned about how they plant new trees every year and it takes 10 years for the trees to be ready to be bought by customers at the Christmas tree farm. At the butterfly house, they got to see some butterflies and learned how they release the butterflies. They also learned how they make the designs in the corn for the yearly corn maze. After that, they got to take a tour at Balance and learned about aquaponics, and eat a delicious lunch there.

Their last stop was Maumee State Park where they took a walk out to the lake and learned about how they are controlling flooding and how they plan to continue to clean up the area through the H2Ohio program.

Tyler Woodward said,” As a new FFA member who attended ag in the 419. I am very impressed with how much agriculture there is in Lucas County. I’m also pleased with how great my experience was while attending Ag in the 419 trip.”

Anthony Wayne FFA is a satellite program of Penta Career Center.
