FCCLA Successful at State Competition

Members of the Anthony Wayne - Penta Career Center Satellite FCCLA Chapters competed in Career Development Events at the Ohio FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Columbus, Ohio on April 27-28. The State Leadership Conference is the largest event of the year, with attendees participating in a variety of career development activities, leadership training, service learning, networking and competition events.

Students spend countless hours during study halls, lunches and after school working on their projects. For many of the AWJH and AWHS students, this was their first year participating in FCCLA and competing at this level. Nine students will advance to represent Anthony Wayne Local Schools at the National Leadership Conference in Denver, Colorado in July.

Three student also chose to run for state office. They needed to prepare a 1-2 minute speech and present to an audience of approximately 1,500 people. All three were chosen to lead FCCLA at the state level: Addison Metzger (junior) was elected as VP of Membership, Violet Lowe (sophomore) was elected as VP of Community Outreach and was slated as a National Candidate, and Grant Hubley (freshman), was elected State President.

The chapters are satellite programs of Penta Career Center and are led by advisors, Amanda Valdez and Kay-Lynne Schaller.
