Good morning Anthony Wayne families,
The District is excited to have your children back in the buildings next week for the start of the school year. I know many of you have reached out to your child’s school regarding their bus routes for this year, and I appreciate your patience as we have worked to overcome some unforeseen obstacles to preparing the routes.
You should now be able to view your child’s bus assignment in the PowerSchool parent portal. Please take a moment to log in and review this information carefully, as it may be different from your previous driver and pickup time from past years.
As you may have heard, many school districts have faced bus driver shortages over the past couple of years. Anthony Wayne is now also being impacted by this lack of bus drivers.
Unfortunately, the District has had eight drivers resign their positions due to retirement, relocation, medical concerns, new employment, etc. While we certainly wish them well, we have been challenged in finding applicants and training replacements for these individuals.
Our Transportation Director, Tammy Tapley and her team have been working around the clock to make arrangements for covering the 3,000 miles of daily routes in addition to the athletics transportation needs of our students. She has done a terrific job of adjusting routes to accommodate the staff shortage and I commend her for her efficiency and creativity.
We expect there will be a few delays as our drivers adjust to new routes. Thank you for your patience and understanding with your child’s new bus route as we are working as quickly as possible to get back to full staffing levels.
If you know someone who is interested in securing a bus driving position that has excellent pay and benefits please contact Dr. Brad Contat, Human Resources Director at 419-877-5377 or have them apply online here. CDL training can be provided for those who do not currently have the license.
Thank you for understanding,
Dr. Jim Fritz, Superintendent
