Dear AWHS Junior and Senior Parents:
It’s an exciting time of year and with Prom and After-Prom, our awards nights, graduation and summer break coming up quickly. The staff here at AWHS, in partnership with local first responders, want to remind students to make responsible decisions during this season of celebration.
On Monday, April 28 we will host a simulated court case and automobile crash for all juniors and seniors. This realistic, dramatized scenario aims to demonstrate the potential devastating impacts of impaired and distracted driving. Please encourage your child to attend. The Mock Crash will occur at the AWHS Soccer/Track stadium from approximately 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. It will simulate an automobile accident involving student volunteers who will act as the drivers and passengers, along with live response from our local police and emergency services departments. There will be lights, sirens and an air ambulance involved in the event. The demonstration is designed to be impactful and will include realistic elements such as sirens and simulated injuries. While this is a staged event, it may be intense for some students. |
While we do not want to cast a heavy shadow over such a joyous season, we do hope that you will join us in reminding students of the potential dangers associated with substance use and distracted driving. Our goal is to promote safe decision-making and remind students that their lives and future plans can be dramatically impacted by their choices.
We are grateful for the ongoing support of our local police and emergency services personnel in presenting this bi-annual simulation for our students.
