Greetings Anthony Wayne Junior High Families,
Thank you for a great week! We hope everyone enjoys their spring break next week. As a reminder, our 3rd quarter ends on April 1st, so please encourage your students to have a strong end to the 3rd quarter! 3rd quarter grades determine 4th quarter athletic eligibility for Track & Field.
Ohio State Tests
It’s hard to believe, but state testing is just around the corner. We will hold our school-wide testing times during the first part of the school day (typically 8 am-10 am) on the following dates:
- April 15 & 17: ELA Ohio State Test
- April 22 & 24: Math Ohio State Test
- April 29 & May 1: Science Ohio State Test (8th Grade & Biology only)
We would appreciate your support in making sure your student is in attendance on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling appointments on these days.
Attendance Reminder
Regular school attendance is key to your child’s academic success, social growth, and future opportunities. Consistent attendance ensures they don’t miss essential lessons, activities, or chances to build relationships and develop important life skills. Research shows that even a few absences can impact learning, so we encourage you to prioritize attendance whenever possible. Please communicate with us if your child must miss school. Thank you for your partnership in supporting your child’s education!
Dress Code Reminder
As temperatures are starting to slowly rise, we wanted to send out a reminder about student dress.
“Clothing that exposes undergarments, bare midriffs, or is otherwise revealing, is prohibited.”
Please remind your student to dress appropriately for school. If your student is not sure if their outfit meets the dress code, encourage them to find a different outfit. More information regarding our dress code is listed in our Student Handbook if you have further questions.
Homework Helpers
Homework Helpers returns after Spring Break on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (2:45-3:30 pm) in the media center. As a reminder, students are only able to stay if they have a ride to pick them up at 3:30 pm.
Our final Homework Helpers will be held the second week of April, concluding Thursday 4/10/25.
Great Lakes Chess Club
Chess Club for grades 5-8 will return to AWLS in April! This 8-week program led by a nationally-ranked coach will develop beginner students and challenge experienced players in this timeless game of strategy and skill. All details can be found in the attached flyer.
High School Fall Sports
Current eighth grade students who are interested in high school cheerleading are invited to attend a mandatory tryout meeting Monday March 31. There will be two weeks of open gym before tryouts Tuesday April 22. All details can be found in the attached flyer. Current eighth grade students who are interested in high school boys golf are invited to attend an informational meeting Wednesday, April 2 at 2:45p in Coach Phillips’ high school classroom Room 172.
Camp Invention: Leaders-in-Training
Are you looking for leadership opportunities for your junior high student this summer? Fallen Timbers is again hosting Camp Invention (a STEM camp for our elementary and middle school students) and is looking for Leaders-in-Training to help facilitate activities. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
