September is Attendance Awareness Month, a nationwide recognition of the importance of regular school attendance on student achievement. It’s also a great time to share a few reminders regarding school attendance:

 

We know that some absences are unavoidable. 
 If your child needs to miss a full or partial school day, please make sure to let us know as soon as possible. This will help us ensure your child is safely accounted for during the school day. Please see below for information about reporting your child’s absence:

 

FULL DAY ABSENCE
 If your child will miss a full day of school, please call OR email the school office as soon as possible.

 

When you download the free Anthony Wayne Local Schools app, you can report absences via email with just a tap! Simply choose your child’s school from the dropdown menu, then click the icon on the bottom of the screen. It will open an email window prepopulated with the correct email address. More information about the app is available on the website at www.AnthonyWayneSchools.org/Communications. 

If your child will be arriving late, please let us know in advance as much as possible by sending a note with your student or emailing the contacts above. Primary school parents must come into the office to sign in their child. 

 

Leaving Early
If your child must leave school before dismissal time (even if by only a few minutes), please let us know in advance as much as possible by sending a note with your student or emailing the contacts above. Please leave adequate time for your child to gather belongings and meet you in the office. Parents picking up their child must come into the office to sign them out. If your child drives to school, the school office still needs to receive permission to release them early.

 

We discourage extended absences due to the disruption to the learning process, but understand that some families choose to travel during the school year. Please note that these absences are considered unexcused. Let us know as soon as possible if your child will be away from school for an extended period by completing a vacation/personal convenience form. They are available in each office and online at www.anthonywayneschools.org/DistrictForms.

 

EMERGENCIES
We ask that you communicate in advance whenever possible, but understand that last-minute changes can happen due to unforeseen circumstances. If you must pick up your child from school early due to an emergency, please call your child’s school office as soon as possible, as email may not immediately be received.
