Second Graders spread love with PB&J service project

Each year, the second grade classes at Monclova Primary School hold a community service project to teach the importance of empathy and sharing with those in need in our community. This year, the students decided to focus their efforts on one of the most-needed pantry staples at Vision Kitchen -- peanut butter and jelly.

"In the past, second grade has usually collected socks, but having just come off another building-wide service projects, we didn't want it to be too taxing for parents," said Jennifer Drennan, Monclova Second Grade Teacher. "We wanted to keep the food drive simple for families, yet have a high probability of a good amount of participation."

The students set a classroom goal of collecting 25 items, and were proud to surpass that goal by nearly double. Altogether, the four second grade classrooms collected 177 jars of peanut butter and jelly.

Special thanks goes to Mrs. Drennan, Mrs. Brungard, Ms. Lewis and Mrs. Pfefferle for organizing the drive and to our AW students and families for showing kindness and generosity by participating!
