December Letter to Families

December 1, 2023
Happy Holidays AW Families!
As we approach the festive season, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and share some important updates from our school district.
This time of year gives us many opportunities to gather as a community and reflect on the many ways that together we create a supportive and nurturing environment for our students to thrive.
Over the last year, there have been so many accomplishments to celebrate within the educational experiences the AWLS staff provides to students. I am very grateful for these dedicated and passionate individuals who work tirelessly to engage students in their learning in a positive and engaging school environment.
As we look ahead to the upcoming year, we know there will be challenges to overcome, but our commitment to providing an exceptional education remains steadfast. I’m confident that when we work together to resolve these challenges, we will continue to see our students excel academically and personally.
I extend my sincere gratitude to you for your continued collaboration with the District to provide our students with experiences that have allowed them to be successful over the last year. Your involvement and partnership play a vital role in the success of the overall well-being of our school community now and as we enter 2024.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education of the children of our community.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Dr. Jim Fritz, Superintendent
Anthony Wayne Local Schools
FEEDBACK REQUESTED: Financial Planning Survey Reminder
The District is seeking feedback from stakeholders regarding the failure of the District's proposed Bond Issue and Operational Levy. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to complete a brief survey to share your thoughts. Your input will help to inform the District's future financial decisions. The survey closes December 20.
NOTICE: Adjustments Made to District Calendar
Due to the spring primary election being moved from May to March, and three of our buildings being used as polling locations, the Board of Education voted to change the District calendar. There will be no school for students on Tuesday, March 19. It will be a staff professional development day. Students will be in session on Tuesday, May 7. Please download a new copy of the District calendar for your reference.
NOTICE: No School Due to Solar Eclipse
There will be no school on Monday, April 8 due to the Total Solar Eclipse. The Board of Education made the decision to use this as one of the District’s calamity days under advisement from local emergency management agencies who cited safety concerns related to increased traffic, reduced visibility and the eclipse occurring during dismissal times.
NOTICE: School Delay and Closing Information
As we enter the winter season, please know that in the event of school delay or closure, the District will notify families and staff via the InstantConnect mass messaging system and local media. This information will also be made available on the District website and app. Delays and closings will not be communicated via social media.
Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date with your child’s school. If you have not already done so, please make sure you are subscribed to receive text messages from InstantConnect by texting YES to 87569.
